Module: 2.2.1 Incentives and Motivation
During this training, participants will look at several strategies for providing meaningful incentives for staff and also techniques to determine what motivates themselves and their staff as well.
In this training participants will:
- Articulate what motivates themselves and others.
- Identify strategies and incentives for staff to self-motivate.
- List Maslow's Hierarchy of needs and how they affect motivation and appropriate incentives.
Content Overview:
What Motivates Me?
Each participant brainstorms a list of the things that motivates them.
Expectancy Theory
Participants will hear the five steps of the Expectancy Theory: Tell people what you expect; make the work valuable; make the work doable; give feedback/ and reward successful performance.
WIIFM: What's In It For Me?
Activity gives participants a chance to ponder one of the greatest motivators-something that is important to you.
What Makes People Work Well
Activity gives participants a chance to look at themselves and discuss how they work with a partner.
Money Is No Object
Activity gives participants and opportunity to consider the importance of a structure reward system.
Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs
Review of the hierarchy and how afterschool programs meet the needs from Levels 1-4 in support of the child/youth achieving Level 5.
Staff Survey: Motivation
Staff takes a survey to determine what motivates them to do good work.
