Module: 4.2.2v Virtual Module: Social-Emotional Factors of Multilingual Learners
NOTE: This training must be requested as part of a three-part series, alongside Module 4.2.1 and Module 4.2.3.
This module was developed as part of the English Learner Training and Professional Development Project, and was revised and adapted for virtual delivery in 2021 as part of the Multilingual Learner Training Project.
During this training, participants will understand and identify common social-emotional factors affecting Multilingual Learners.
In this training participants will:
- strengthen their understanding of the social-emotional factors that affect Multilingual Learner achievement and participation in school;
- practice identifying social-emotional factors that affect Multilingual Learners.

Multilingual Learner Student Profiles
Participants have a chance to reflect on a Multilingual Learner student they know and think about what they know about them.
Social-Emotional Factors
This activity introduces participants to the most common social-emotional factors that Multilingual Learners grapple with which often affect achievement and participation in school, as well as recent political shifts.
Reviewing Coaching and Action-Planning Toolkit
Participants become familiar with the activities and tools they will be taking back to their programs to implement with the rest of their staff to help them understand their ML population better and institute targeted strategies to meet the needs of their MLs.
