Module: 4.5.7v Power and Purpose: Empowering Youth to Take Action
Well-being is a function of the control and power young people have in their schools and communities. When people advocate for policies and opportunities that address causes of harm, these activities contribute to a sense of purpose, power and control over life situations. All of these are ingredients necessary to restore well-being and healing. The role of staff in supporting a young person’s healing is to create the space for young people to to make decisions and drive change - in their own lives, in their communities, and in their larger spheres of influence. This agency allows young people to become the architects of their own future.
During this training, participants will explore a definition of youth Agency and place youth Agency in a spectrum of youth participation to youth agency. They will identify challenges and obstacles to creating a space for authentic youth agency and crowdsource responses to those challenges
