Module: 2.3.1 Incorporating Older Youth Voices in Program Activities
This module was developed as part of the California Department of Education/Child Development Division School-Age Training Project and was revised in 2017 to incorporate specific language, examples and tips for summer and year-round learning programs.
During this training participants in developing strategies to include school-age youth thoughts, ideas, and preferences in program delivery and planning.
In this training participants will:
- identify multiple ways in which youth can exercise their voice in their programs.
- learn techniques to support and encourage older youth to provide input during program activities
Content Overview:
Sharing Leadership with Youth
Participants will reflect on how their perceptions of their roles as staff and their perceptions of school-age youth can influence their willingness to share leadership of program activities with youth.
Soliciting Youth Thoughts, Ideas, and Preferences
Participants will practice two methods of asking questions that will help solicit youths’, ideas, and thoughts.
Planning for Youth Input
Participants will practice planning ways to incorporate opportunities for youth voice.
