Module: 1.1.1 Developmental Trends 101
This module was developed as part of the California Department of Education/Child Development Division School-Age Training Project and revised in 2016 to incorporate social-emotional learning, character building and Quality Standards for Expanded Learning in California.
During this training, participants will learn about the physical, cognitive, and social-emotional developmental trends that are associated with different age-groups (K-8) and how these trends relate to day-to-day programming.
In this training participants will:
- Understand developmental trends that are associated with different age-groups (K-8);
- Identify how developmental trends relate to the everyday behaviors of each age-group.
Content Overview:
Hitting the Highlights
Participants will discuss the three domains of development (physical, cognitive, and social-emotional) and identified age-groups, as well as discuss common questions that they have about each of these areas.
Research and Share
Each participant will have a chance to become a “researcher” on a certain area of development. Participants will then return to their group, share the information they learned, and complete an activity to enhance their learning.
Building Developmental Profiles
Participants get to know a partner and introduce them to the larger group, in order to let staff become acquainted with each other and feel comfortable in the training.
