Module: 3.6.2 Cultural Conflicts and Strategies

This module was revised in 2016 to incorporate social-emotional learning, character building and Quality Standards for Expanded Learning in California as part of CalSAC's work with the Expanded Learning 360/365 project.
During this training, participants will address issues that prevent the program from creating an environment that embraces diversity, access and equity. Participants will attempt to develop strategies that support that environment.
In this training participants will:
- Examine the significance of and challenges to supporting cultural diversity and equity.
- Address appropriate ways of handling challenges and conflicts that reflect culture and diversity.
Content Overview:
Finding Harmony in Diversity
Participants examine the idea of harmony in diversity and how this could be represented.
Supporting Cultural Diversity and Equity
Participants examine personal and environmental challenges to promoting equity and diversity and discuss how these challenges impact programming for children and youth at their site.
Cultural Diversity Scenarios: Reflections and Analyses
Participants review scenarios that depict common challenges in regards to diversity and equity issues, answer questions about them and identify strategies to resolve them.
