Module: 3.5.5 Exploring Cliques in Your Program
Note: This module requires 2 trainers.
This module was revised in 2016 to incorporate social-emotional learning, character building and Quality Standards for Expanded Learning in California as part of CalSAC's work with the Expanded Learning 360/365 project.
During this training, participants will explore the impact of cliques in their programs, how they are formed, how they affect individual children and youth, and how they impact the safe and supportive program environment.
In this training participants will:
- Understand the impact cliques have on individual children and youth.
- Understand where and how various cliques are formed by the children and youth in their program.
- Understand how cliques impact their program and their role in supporting more inclusive behavior on the part of children and youth which creates a safe and supportive environment aligned to the CA Department of Education Quality Standards.
Content Overview:
Reviewing Group Agreements
Participants will review the group agreements that they created and add anything that they feel is still missing or needs to be revisited.
Cliques
Based on participants' FRAMEs, they will form cliques and explore how these cliques have helped and hindered them.
Borders and Boundaries: A Mapping Exercise
Participants will draw a map of their program and community and explore how those borders and boundaries are expressed by their youth in their program.
